where creatives connect
BRIDGING THE INDIE GAP:
Join us on Wednesday, January 27 with two of the powerhouse minds behind Smarthouse Creative, Ryan Davis and Brad Wilke. They will deliver a film marketing, audience engagement, and personal branding guide to help indie filmmakers (and other independent artists) bridge what they’ve coined as “The Indie Gap” – the divide between filmmaking as a hobby on nights and weekends, and the creation of a sustainable career as an independent filmmaker/artist.
Ryan Davis (@indieartsvoice) is a film publicist and communications professional with ten years experience in film and arts marketing. She has worked in almost every aspect of the film business–from production and festivals to distribution, exhibition and DVD sales, and has placed stories in outlets ranging from CNN and The New York Times, to community newspapers and local radio. She has worked for a variety of nonprofit arts groups and organizations, including heading the marketing departments for Northwest Film Forum and Northwest Folklife, and has been assistant director of Couch Fest Films since 2010. Ryan was on the jury for the International Documentary Challenge for 2012-3, and is currently a juror for the 2015 Seattle Shorts Festival.
Brad Wilke (@jbwilke) is an award-winning filmmaker, produced feature-length screenwriter, and film programmer for the Seattle International Film Festival. Brad holds an MBA from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, as well as a Master of Communication in Digital Media from the University of Washington’s Department of Communication. Brad designs and executes digital and social media strategies for films and filmmakers, as well as film festivals and brands. Brad is also the founder of the tech-driven nonprofit, Flash Volunteer, and a part-time lecturer at UW’S Communications Leadership program and Antioch University Seattle where he teaches digital marketing and strategy.
