July 2017: AEG + One Reel Talk Bumbershoot

Hear ye, hear ye! We’ve got a fresh look and a new attitude. We’re excited to launch The Mixer, a new all-ages approach to the Film + Music + Interactive Happy Hour (a.k.a. your favorite networking/professional development event that spans the breadth of Seattle’s creative industries).



This month, join Rob Thomas, VP of AEG Presents NW, and Chris Weber, Executive Director of One Reel, at this month’s Mixer. Listen to these entertainment leaders discuss Bumbershoot —the music and arts festival they co-produce — and share what’s on deck for 2017. This is an opportunity for Bumbershoot producers to inform as well as get input from the creative community regarding what you would like to see at future festivals. It’s not every day you get a chance to influence one of the country’s greatest arts festivals. Join us!

ROB THOMAS – Vice President, AEG Presents NW

Rob Thomas and his team operate out of the AEG Presents Pioneer Square office; they oversee both Showbox music venues, Marymoor Park Concert Series, Summer Meltdown Music Festival, and Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival. The Seattle office also promotes events at KeyArena, Wamu Theatre, Centurylink Field, Tacoma Dome and regional shows in Oregon, Montana, Idaho, British Columbia and Alaska. Rob is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder.


Rob has worked with many nonprofits, producing fundraising concerts with Rage Against the Machine for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Beach Boys for 9/11 Remembrance, and many more. AEG Presents has been active in supporting Seattle nonprofits, including: Swedish Hospital, Mary’s Place, One Reel, CIDR, Music Cares, Ignite, Vera Project, Food Life Line, Season of Miracles Children’s Hospital, KEXP and many more. Rob is currently a board member at Center for Infectious Disease Research and Uptown Arts & Culture.


CHRIS WEBER – Executive Director, One Reel

Chris Weber has channeled his background in music booking, film production, visual arts curating and event production into a two-decade career as a multi-disciplinary arts programmer. Weber began this work in the arts in Denton, TX by booking bands, first in his backyard and later in rock clubs and art spaces; he then quickly moved into curating and creating multi-disciplinary arts events in Denton, Texas and Brooklyn, NY during the 1990’s as part of the Good/Bad Art Collective. Weber moved to Seattle in 2003 and soon immersed himself in the city’s diverse art scenes: first as the Program Director of the non-profit art center Consolidated Works, then as Creative Director of the for-profit McLeod Residence event space and gallery, and finally working with One Reel full-time since 2010. Weber currently serves as the Executive Director of One Reel and is on the Jack Straw Board of Directors, a member of the Capitol Hill Arts District Steering Committee, and an at large member of the Seattle Music Commission – Seattle Arts Commission Joint Youth & Community Committee. He is also the inventor and chief instigator of three annual Rock Lottery events (in Seattle, Brooklyn, and Denton, TX), and still creates art with the Good/Bad Art Collective, which was most recently honored with two simultaneous commissions from the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center’s XChange Project in 2014.


This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome, must be 21+ to drink.

Parking: There are many parking lots near the museum, as well as metered parking on the side of 5th Avenue N. However, make sure to read surrounding signage because there are restrictions! Please enter at the Culture Kitchen Main Entrance at the corner of 5th and Harrison

Public Transportation: The bus stop at 5th Ave N accommodates King County Metro routes 3, 4, and 82. The monorail from Westlake Center to Seattle Center is also available.

Now approaching half a century of existence, Bumbershoot is one of Seattle’s largest cultural touchstones.
